Access to primary education is limited to the local Muslim population mainly because of cultural and economic motives. On one hand the boys have priority over the girls to attend school. And on the other hand some families cannot afford to pay for the education of all their members. This means that most of the girls take on domestic tasks from a very early age.

For the same reason the rate of illiteracy in adult women is very high according to UNDP sources only 29.5% of adult women over the age of 15 years, know how to read and write.  Nowadays young girls as well as women know the importance of education and are highly motivated to learn.
